My Collections: #1

May 3, 2010

Spice rack? Not exactly...

At the present moment, I have 4 collections going. #1 is a group of glass jars filled with sand, which I intend on scooping up from every beach I visit. Unfortunately, this collection was not in the works when I visited basically every beach in Spain, or the beautiful
coast in Greece, but I see it as a reason to go back someday 🙂

I have high hopes for this collection, as I ordered these mini glass jars from Crate & Barrel in the quantity of 35. Right now, I have 4, so I have alot of travelling to do!

If you’d like to start a collection like this on your own, learn from my mistake, and do NOT fill up a jar with damp sand because you are SO impatient to see how it will look (and then proceed to throw away the rest of the sand that you brought home). The sand will settle, and you will be left with half a jar (half full if you ask me!)

I’d like to add some pretty labels to these jars ASAP denoting the date, and where they came from. Any suggestions?

Little jars are SO cool! I have a bunch in the pantry that I use when I make pot de creme.

The sand collecting is an awesome idea. You must return to Northern California so we can visit Glass Beach, where there is no sand. Just sea glass. http://www.fortbragg.com/blog/2009/11/glass-beach-named-one-of-worlds-10-most-amazing-beaches/

(I should warn you however, that it is a federal offense to remove glass from the beach… but maybe we could risk it for the sake of your collection!)
