Wilton Tent Sale

June 13, 2010

Heavenly chaos

Last weekend, I was introduced to the Wilton Tent Sale. A wondrous event that takes place at the Wilton Headquarters in the Chicago suburbs. All Wilton products are on sale, i’m talking MAJOR discounts, as well as scrapbooking materials, Martha Stewart brand products, and other great goods. If you live in the Chicago-land area, i’d highly suggest paying a visit to the sale, especially as discounts get even greater as the month goes on.

The best part of the sale was getting to play with the purchases (along with some friends) as soon as we put our bags down! We put together a simply boxed cake with a premade icing, simply to play with our food. We attacked the cake with fondant shapes, icing flowers, patterns, etc. I don’t think that you would appreciate our final product, but I think that it turned out looking pretty impressive 🙂

After watching several instructional videos on youtube, and using the boyfriend’s experiences from working in a bakery, we decided to attempt the impossible: butercream roses

the beginnings of a rose

Unfortunately, our icing wouldn’t cooperate and keep melting, but next time we’ll make our own and hopefully we’ll be a bit more successful. Considering the circumstances, I think that this is pretty great for a first try:

not too shabby!

Overall, the tent sale was a great experience. As you can see from the pictures below, I didn’t hold back, and got some great goods!

i'll be back again next year Wilton, be ready!
