McDowell Sonoran Preserve

January 24, 2011
On Saturday afternoon, after hike #1, it time to take a quick break and move onto hike #2. We took a 45 minute drive into a more isolated part of Arizona to wander the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This hike was much different than the first, as we encountered no one else anywhere on the trail, and the preserve itself covers 14,000 acres! We spoke with a guide, who told us that the “Scenic Trail” would be best for us. It tooks us in a 4.5 mile loop up along the ridge lines of the mountains, and was the perfect place to go for the sunset! We didn’t quite realize how absolutely quiet & isolated the trail would be, and so we pushed it a LITTLE too close to dark (it became black about 10 minutes after we got in our car), but it was SO worth it to see the sun set against the mountatins!
